Have you ever left or seen dog doo on the sidewalk? That is very dangerous because rain may wash it into the storm drains and out to the ocean. It doesn't take much to cause pollution. Just one gram of dog doo-doo - about the size of an M&M - contains over 23 billion fecal coliform bacteria (big words for yucky stuff), some of which can make you and me very ill if they end up in the ocean. So make sure that you follow your dog around on his walks, and pick up after him when he's done.

Did you know if people wash their cars on the street, the dirty water goes straight into the storm drains? So ask if you can help wash the car on the grass instead, where the water will drain into the ground. It helps to use special biodegradable soap - ask a parent or your teacher what biodegradable means. |
