State Department of Transportation Joins Kahala Mall for Kids Day
June 19, 2010
The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT) Storm Water Management Program (SWMP) celebrated Hawaii’s children for the inaugural Kids Day event held at Kahala Mall on Saturday.
More than 12,000 keiki and their families gathered at Kahala Mall to experience a range of fun activities offered by the State DOT SWMP team and other community partners. The State DOT SWMP team took free photos of kids wearing Malama costumes in front of a large ocean backdrop. The photos were given to parents in a custom “Stick it to Storm Water Pollution” frame. The DOT SWMP team also demonstrated how pollutants in storm water runoff can end up in our oceans using its 3-D interactive model, which proved to be very popular with kids and parents alike. Visitors to the SWMP booth also received free logo items for taking the time to complete a survey about storm water pollution.
Kids can learn more about protecting our water through printable games and activities found on our Web site. Just click the “For Kids” button on our homepage at www.stormwaterhawaii.com.
