DOT Embraces Ocean Awareness at the E Malama I Ke Kai Festival
May 15, 2010

The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT) Storm Water Management Program recently participated in the E Malama I Ke Kai Ocean Awareness Festival at Kapiolani Park on Saturday, May 15, 2010.

The outdoor festival focused on ocean awareness and connecting people to the ocean. Many ocean and environmentally friendly groups were in attendance to educate our community on the importance of preserving our oceans. The DOT Storm Water Management Program team interacted with the children, adults, and families who attended the festival demonstrating how pollutants in storm water runoff can end up in our oceans through a 3-D interactive model. The demonstration allowed for keiki and families to see how pollutants from our storm drains can damage the ocean and allowed them to ask important questions on what they can do keep storm water runoff clean. The festival also included: craft booths, keiki activities, ono food selections, live entertainment, and more.
