A day of celebration and education at the Waikiki Aquarium
June 8, 2011
The Storm Water Management Program recently spent the day with their friends at the Waikiki Aquarium to help celebrate World Oceans Day. This environmental holiday is the planet’s biggest celebration of the ocean. Held every June 8, communities around the world simultaneously hold ocean-friendly events to pay homage to the Earth’s waters.
The Aquarium featured special activities to signify this global celebration including a near-by beach cleanup and a moi fish release, keeping visiting school groups and families engaged.
The Storm Water team had quite an interactive booth set-up to help visitors understand how pollutants can end up in our ocean and near shore waters. Between the storm water model and prize wheel, aquarium goers were ready for World Oceans Day as they learned important information about how to prevent pollution from flowing into our oceans.
