In February, the HDOT Highways, Oahu District’s Storm Water Management Program unveiled a new #TrashFreeHawaii campaign to promote the importance of trash reduction and preventing storm water pollution. The campaign incorporates the use of Rainworks, a non-toxic environmentally safe super-hydrophobic invisible spray that appears only on rainy days.
Rainworks creates rain-activated positive messages and is street art that is invisible when dry and appears when wet. Our first two Rainworks displays can be found at the Waikiki Aquarium in front of the entrance and inside near the Monk Seal deck.
Keep an eye out for future Rainwork art, including a display at Sea Life Park in April. Also, stay up to date with our new #TrashFreeHawaii website at trashfreehawaii.com.
