In August, Governor Neil Abercrombie released nearly 14 million dollars for State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT) highways and facilities projects.
The list included two projects concerning storm water runoff mitigation.
DOT Highways received $2,340,000 to be used for construction projects that will allow it to meet storm water runoff permitting requirements as set forth by the state Department of Health (DOH) for various highway locations. These infrastructure improvements will allow DOT Highways to reduce erosion within the rights-of-way for highways, and will also improve water quality in various watersheds.
DOT Highways also received $2,000,000 for Phase 6 improvements for erosion control at various sites on Oahu. These construction funds will be used for erosion control mitigation measures as well as filtering systems for DOT Highways facilities.
