Congratulations to HC&D Kapaa Quarry, which has been selected as the Department of Transportation, Highways Division, Oahu District’s Third Quarter 2016 Adopt-A-Highway Champions!
HC&D Kapaa Quarry’s route for the Adopt-A-Highway program is on the H-3 freeway between Milepost 11.4 and Milepost 13.58, which is roughly the section of the freeway between Kamehameha Highway and Mokapu Saddle Road.
One of the reasons we volunteer is that section of H-3 bisects Kapaa Quarry, which makes it part of our ‘home.’”
Linda Goldstein, Manager, Environmental & Community Affairs for HC&D, LLC, says the most unusual items they find are identification cards of all types, especially military ID’s and drivers licenses.
“One of the reasons we volunteer is that section of H-3 bisects Kapaa Quarry, which makes it part of our ‘home’, and we want it to be beautiful,” Goldstein said. “It’s amazing how much trash accumulates between cleanups, and there’s a lot of satisfaction in seeing all the bags of trash waiting to be picked up!”
Goldstein credits Kapaa Quarry Superintendent, Andrew Hall, with being a prime mover behind their efforts.
“Andrew coordinates the cleanups and watches over the crew to make sure they work safely,” Goldstein said. “It’s thanks to him that our section of H-3 gets a ‘makeover’ every quarter!”
Special thanks to the volunteers at HC&D Kapaa Quarry for their efforts in helping prevent trash from entering our storm drains and polluting our waters. We are proud to recognize their commitment to the Adopt-A-Highway program!
